When comparing freight forwarders for a shipment involving Israel, send each provider the same brief and ask for the same written answers. This gives you a fair basis for choosing a service and exposes tasks that have not yet been assigned. Build one request for quotation
Include the origin and final delivery point, goods description, intended use, package count, final packed dimensions and gross weight, value, ready date and receiving window. Note batteries, controlled goods, oversized pieces, fragile items, stacking restrictions and access limits. Identify the seller, buyer, proposed importer and any services already booked. Label estimates clearly.
Send this same information to each provider. A quotation based on loose boxes cannot fairly be compared with one based on a packed crate or non-stackable pallet.
Ask every provider to complete the same six fields
- Route and milestones: Where does the service begin and end? Which mode, carrier arrangements and key handovers are proposed? What is estimated rather than confirmed?
- Included work: Who covers collection, packing, export handling, freight, destination handling, customs coordination, storage and final delivery?
- Responsible parties: Who is the exporter or importer where relevant, and which licensed or specialist professional handles any required representation or approval? Do not assume the forwarder automatically takes every legal role.
- Price basis: What measurement, minimum charges, currency, validity period and surcharges apply? Which amounts are fixed, estimated or payable to a third party?
- Cargo acceptance: What packaging, lifting, access, insurance or carrier acceptance information is still needed before booking?
- Exception handling: Who receives updates, approves a changed route or extra charge, and acts if documents or delivery arrangements fail?
Compare the complete cost, not just the freight line
Mark each line in the offers as included, excluded, estimated or still unknown. Ask the provider to clarify destination handling, taxes, customs service charges, storage exposure and final delivery before treating an amount as a complete budget. Use a simple decision record
For each offer, record the quoted scope, total of confirmed charges, open estimates, proposed schedule, document gaps, named contact and next decision. If a proposal cannot identify who handles a critical handover, ask for that answer in writing before booking. For technical cargo, request a handling plan based on the actual dimensions and site constraints; do not infer installation or rigging from a freight quote.

First align the service boundaries and unresolved charges. Then compare price alongside routing, handling requirements and the quality of the exception plan.
Does a forwarder guarantee customs release or a delivery date?
No generic promise can settle product-specific requirements, carrier capacity or destination decisions. Ask what is confirmed, what depends on another party and when you will receive an update.
